Literal Guilt Trips

Written by on September 8, 2020

Summertime in Wisconsin typically features some standard activities: boating on the 4th of July, weekends at the cabin up nort’, and an August vacation. Feels like we check all those boxes every summer, right?

Because of COVID, we kinda put the kabash on 4th of July gatherings and parties at the cabin. But what about that August vacation? The last few summers I’ve taken a road trip out west with some buddies. We’ve gone to Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, and my personal favorite spot- Montana.

This summer we didn’t do a trip, but I did head up nort’ for the long Labor Day weekend to see my family. I felt guilty! I didn’t like it!!!

Here in La Crosse, I can stay in my own little bubble; I spend 99% of my time at my apartment or at work, with occasional trips to the store to get food. I feel like I am in control and can avoid COVID.

However, when I go home to see my parents ( in their late 50’s) I start to worry about every little thing. I start freaking out about stopping at a gas station or picking up takeout… I’m always thinking “I don’t want to bring COVID home to them!” It’s scary, I don’t like it.

In 2 weeks, I’m going camping with some friends. Fortunately I won’t have to worry about getting my family sick, but if the weather is like this I may end up freezing to death. 2020 can wrap up any time now.
