FOOD DRIVE FRIDAYS
Written by Ballzer on July 9, 2025
Food Drive Fridays return this July to rally the community to support Hunger Task Force of La Crosse in the fight against hunger! Current conditions including inflation and uncertainties in funding have compelled Rotary Groups to accept the challenge to collect food and funds once again! In partnership with United Way, Midwest Family, and WKBT News 8 Now, the Food Drive Fridays event will make a lasting impact in the communities they serve. Inspired by the original 2020 initiative, this year’s event continues the tradition of neighbors helping neighbors.
Taking place on July 11, 18, and 24, Food Drive Fridays is a critical effort helps stock shelves and supports their 128 recipient food programs during a time when donations are dangerously low—especially in a time that need continues to grow. Please join us in keeping our neighbors fed!
Shelly Fortner, Executive Director of the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, joined the Morning Buzz to talk about the current need and how you can support:
Thanks to Thanks to our Zcare sponsors, Optical Fashions, we were able to donate $1,000 to help fill the shelves at HTF. If you’re able to make a monetary donation as well, you can do so on their website HERE.

Non-perishable foods are running dangerously low at The Hunger Task Force. We are in desperate need of canned goods for the programs we serve. Canned items needed include:
– canned meats (tuna, chicken)
– peanut butter, soup
– fruit
– boxed side dishes (stuffing, rice, potatoes)
– breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal, etc)
– canned Ravioli & Spaghettio’s
– pasta & pasta sauce
Donation drop-off locations: Hy-Vee La Crosse parking lot
Old K-mart parking lot
Collection hours: 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
Whether it’s a can of soup or a box of cereal, your donation helps feed families, children, and seniors in need—right here at home.
Drive through, drop off, and make a difference. Every can and every dollar counts!
