MARY’S STORY
Mary (Cornell) Steinmetz, daughter of Mervin and Louise Cornell, grew up in Hillsboro,WI. She married Don Steinmetz of Elroy, where they have lived for many years. Mary is the mother to three daughters, Savanna, Brianna, and Julianna. She worked hard for 18yrs at Brunners before having to leave due to her diagnosis.
In September 2019, Mary became quite ill. She began seeing a doctor looking for answers. In November, she received the heart breaking news, it was cancer. Mary was immediately admitted to UW Madison to begin treatment. She was diagnosed with MULTIPLE MYELOMA. This is cancer of the blood plasma cells.
Mary received multiple rounds of chemotherapy to begin treating her. After postponement due to the pandemic, she had a stem cell retrieval done. A few weeks later on June 18th, Mary was again admitted to UW Madison for a bone marrow transplant and a lonely 37 day stay. On July 24th, she was able to return home to continue healing. Mary’s family and friends are now trying to ease the financial burden. All money raised will help Mary and her husband Don with her medical bills and expenses.
