Mini Donut Half Marathon

Remembering Mike “Oly” Olson

What do mini donuts have to do with running half marathons… besides the obvious fact that you are well deserving of several handfuls of donuts after running more than 13 miles?

The Mini Donut Half Marathon and Mini Mile Honor Walk events were created and organized by the family of Mike “Oly” Olson who lost his life to suicide at the age of 59 on May 14, 2013. For years, Oly owned and operated Oly’s Mini Donut Express, a mini donut trailer you could find at local fairs and festivals. Oly was seen most happy while running the Mini Donut Express and he loved to make people laugh.

We will remember Mike Olson and also raise money for the Joe Was Just Joe Foundation, a local non-profit organization founded to develop and fund programs and educational resources to address issues related to suicide. We will also use the opportunity to raise awareness for suicide and mental health issues and honor all of our loved ones, both living and passed, who have suffered from depression and thoughts of suicide.

We have a serious purpose, but we will also have fun, get in a great workout, and thanks to Oly’s inspiration, eat some donuts at the finish line.
