DID YOU SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS LAST NIGHT?!

Written by on September 29, 2020

The aurora borealis, or northern lights, have always been on my bucket list to see in person. I’ve been to a few places at times when they may be visible but so far, no luck. The weather phenomenon is more frequent further north in locations like Alaska, Norway, and northern Canada. Last night, there was supposed to be a decent chance to see them as far south as we live, but I didn’t see any action. Did you?

The Space Weather Prediction Center announced G1 and G2 geomagnetic storm watches for nights from Sept. 27-29. There is a chance the northern lights still could be visible tonight, Tuesday, September 29th and Wednesday September 30, but if we do see them, they’ll be less vivid. Aurora can occur throughout the night but according to WISN‘s forecast, the highest probability is between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

I’ve been reloading the SWPC’s forecast for days and remain hopeful. Worst case scenario, we still get to check out the almost full moon, and that’s always cool!

Good luck! Send pics if you get any 😉 ballzer@z933.com
