GRAD STUDENT DROPS PIZZAS FROM 2ND STORY WINDOW-RAISES $30K FOR CHARITY

Who knew something so amazing could come from 2020?!

27 year old Ben Berman has always loved cooking, thanks to his mom, and he started making pizzas and delivering them from his second story apartment. He started doing this at the beginning of the pandemic, mostly to connect with friends because they could no longer get together. Now, his fun delicious hobby has turned into a thriving non-profit that has raised $30,000 to help fight food insecurity and homelessness in Philadelphia.

Ben ordered the materials on Amazon to rig up a pulley system. He sends slices of homemade pizza down to friends, and now strangers, passing by. People often send money back up, so Ben decided to collect all of the proceeds for charity! The charity needed a name…Good Pizza PHL! Business started picking up. Ben began signing people up via email on Instagram and would serve pizzas from his window on a first-come, first-served basis. He also simply started asking for any monetary donation through Venmo to Good Pizza PHL. He donates 100% of the proceeds to one of the three organizations. Ben buys all of the ingredients for the pizzas out of his pocket, as his contribution.

“On Nov. 20, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy reviewed Berman’s food and rocketed Good Pizza into Instagram fame”. Ben, and his non-profit pizza business, reached $30,000 in donations just before the holidays. Incredible! TODAY has the full story here!

What a great story for such a challenging year. Ben and his non-profit pizza business might be the best thing to come out of 2020!
