And just like that, we’ve flashed back to 1997!

Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield’s iconic match from June 1997 left us with our jaws hitting the floor. During their match, Mike Tyson bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear. Yep, that happened! It was like deja vu when Moroccan boxer Youness Baalla attempted to bite David Nyika, his opponent in the Olympics heavyweight division, on Tuesday.

2021 Tokyo Olympics ear biting:

David Nyika went on to win the match by unanimous decision and advanced to the men’s quarterfinals. Nyika posted about the incident on his Instagram! He even defended his opponent in one of his posts saying, “The heat of battle can bring the best AND the worst out of people. This is part of sport. I have nothing but respect for my opponent and can appreciate the frustration he must have felt. *Please don’t reach out to him if you have nothing nice to say.” Now, that’s a true champion!

Thankfully, Youness was unable to do any harm and Nyika is in good spirits about the whole thing. Ok…now let’s see Tyson and Youness in a match up…with ear muffs, of course!
