ONE SIXTH OF AMERICANS USE THEIR DISHWASHER FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN WASHING DISHES?!

So , here’s a weird one. Apparently, one out of every six Americans said they use their dishwasher primarily for something other than washing dishes. Respondents to the latest YouGov survey were asked “What do you primarily use your dishwasher for?” A solid 60 percent majority responded “To wash dishes,” while another 25 percent said they don’t own a dishwasher. But a surprisingly large 5 percent each said they use their dishwasher primarily “To dry hand-washed dishes,” “To store kitchen items,” or “nothing.” The weird 1% responded with a vague “other.” What, you may be asking yourself, could those “other” uses for a dishwasher possibly be?

There’s a lot of options, but one somewhat well-established alternate use for the dishwasher is cooking. Last week, this guy went viral by using the dishwasher to cook a steak.

Years ago, Mythbusters actually cooked a lasagna in the dishwasher, too.

Perhaps the O.G. was Vincent Price poaching fish on The Tonight Show in 1975:

Why not just use your dishwasher for washing dishes? I don’t know. The cooking in the dishwasher is a fun party trick but it takes forever and seems considerably easier to use the stove. And I’m all about easy! Plus, we don’t have a dishwasher…
