About a month ago, 1D fans were in pretty heated debate after member Liam Payne claimed Simon Cowell built One Direction around him as the group leader. (Scroll down for the whole Logan Paul podcast if you have an hour to kill) Even Lizzo had to comment on the Liam statement. Since it’s Lizzo, it obviously has some NSFW words.

X Factor released footage from the vault to celebrate the band’s 12 year anniversary. While it doesn’t seem like the band was created for Liam by any means, it does seem like Simon Cowell had Liam’s back, even saying he should be solo because he’s that big of a star, adding, “he thinks he’s better than everyone…” but it felt like a compliment. It also seems like it was more Nicole Scherzinger who put a lot of it together.
