You’ve seen the 1992 film, A League of Their Own and the new series on Amazon Prime, but this is the real deal!

The Onalaska Historical Society presents Dolly Ozburn, a player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Tuesday, April 16 from 6p-7:30p at the Onalaska Public Library. Dolly Ozburn will share stories of playing for the Fort Wayne Daises and the South Bend Blue Sox. “Lippy” worked her way up to a starting role in 1954 with South Bend. She also toured with the All-American All-Stars with Bill Allington after the League folded. Click here for more event details.

Dolly Ozburn was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in June 1937. At the end of the 9th grade, at 14, she signed a contract with the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League team, the Fort Wayne Daisies in 1952. She played with the Daisies in 1952 and 1953, and the South Bend Blue Sox in 1954, the League’s final year. After the League’s end, she played with a traveling team created by Bill Allington (a former manager). Dolly played with the non-professional team from 1955 through 1958 before leaving organized baseball to attend college. She became a physical education teacher and coach and also collaborated with the filming of A League of Their Own in 1992. Dolly now resides in Galesville, WI.

In 2016 Dolly told her story via video with the Grand Valley State University Veterans History Project.

The association will have an epic reunion this September in Cincinnati, Ohio!
