BRITTNEY GRINER SHARES DETAILS ABOUT HER 10-MONTH DETAINMENT IN RUSSIA

WNBA star Brittney Griner talked with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts to reflect on her detainment in a Russian Prison. ABC News reports that Brittney Griner, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and nine-time WNBA All-Star who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, reflected on the “mental lapse” that resulted in her months-long detention in Russia. Vape cartridges containing cannabis oil, which is illegal in the country, were found in her luggage.

Brittney was detained after arriving at a Moscow airport after Russian authorities said a search of her luggage revealed vape cartridges allegedly containing oil derived from cannabis. During the interview, Brittany said, “I wanted to take my life more than once in the first weeks”.

“She was sentenced to nine years in prison on Aug. 4, 2022, but amid mounting pressure on the White House to strike a deal and bring her home, the U.S. agreed to swap Griner for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout and she was released on Dec. 8, 2022 after nearly 10 months in prison”.

Brittney will release a new memoir on May 7 titled, “Coming Home” about her experience of being held at the horrific Russian Prison. You can watch the 20/20 special on ABC online or stream it on Hulu.
