GEEKING OUT ABOUT THIS WEEK’S LUNAR ECLIPSE WITH DRIFTLESS STARGAZING’S JOHN HEASLEY
Written by Ballzer on March 12, 2025
There is a Total Lunar Eclipse Thursday evening/Friday morning. Technically, it is all Friday morning, starting at 12:09 AM and ending at 3:48 AM Central, totality will be 1:26-2:32 AM. The last time we saw one in our area was November of 2022. This week’s Worm Moon should put on quite a show! The moon turns a deep red as it passes through the shadow of Earth.
I’ve been following the Driftless Stargazing Facebook page for a long time. Somehow it never occurred to me to reach out directly. Thankfully Rick from WIZM got me in touch with John Heasley, the owner/founder of the LLC and Astronomy Educator, and we caught up to chat about this week’s epic event:
I cannot recommend following the Facebook page enough. If you’re an infrequent gazer or a hard core sky nerd like me, there’s something for everyone. Plus, he usually posts when there’s a solid chance to see the Northern Lights in our region. Check out his page HERE and reach out to him there for events! He talked about predicting aurora visibility, dark skies, and more with Rick HERE.
