LA CROSSE DANCE CENTRE’S THE UGLY DUCKLING

Written by on May 29, 2025

La Crosse Dance Centre‘s Spring Performance is an exciting new adaptation of The Ugly Duckling and a dynamic showcase of repertory works. There are two performances only at the Heider Center, May 31st and June 1st.
LCDC’s director, Nikki Balsamo, and costume designer and show co-creator, Bryce Turgeon, joined the Morning Buzz to talk about what to expect at the shows:

This year’s featured story reimagines Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling through the energetic and expressive lens of vernacular jazz dance, set to an infectious soundtrack of 1960s music. This fresh take on the timeless tale celebrates individuality, transformation, and the joy of self-discovery.
The performance also features a powerful lineup of Repertory Works choreographed by La Crosse Dance Centre faculty, senior students, and guest artists. These works span a variety of styles—including contemporary, modern, ballet, jazz, and tap.
Tickets are available online at the Heider Center website or may be purchased at the door on the day of the show for an inspiring afternoon of dance, storytelling, and artistic celebration.
