‘NIGHT COURT’ REBOOT, STARRING MELISSA RAUCH, IS NEW BUT NOSTALGIC FOR MANY

Written by on January 11, 2023

Not sure how I missed this, but I just found out that Night Court is being rebooted and I’m super excited!

The original Night Court TV series aired from 1984 to 1992. I watched it as a kid with my mom and sister, and I remember it so well. It was a hilarious show about the night shift of a Manhattan courtroom. Harry Stone (Harry Anderson) was the young, cool, jeans-wearing liberal, eccentric judge. Some of my other favorite characters included Bull (Richard Moll), the not-so-bright yet softhearted courtroom guard who stood almost 7 inches tall and had a shiny bald head. There was also Roz, the bailiff (Marsha Warfield), an egotistical prosecutor, Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) and public defender, Christine Sullivan (Markie Post).

The Night Court reboot will premiere on NBC, and will stream on Peacock, starting Tuesday, January 17. The judge, Abby Stone, will be played by Big Bang Theory’s Bernadette (Melissa Rauch). She’s portraying the daughter of the original character, Harry Stone. John Larroquette is returning as Dan Fielding, so I was happy to see one of the original actors is returning. India de Beaufort will play prosecuting attorney, Olivia. Kapil Talwalkar stars as Neil, the court’s clerk. Lacretta stars as the bailiff Donna “Gurgs” Gurganous.

Reboots can be hit or miss, but it’s been so long since the original aired; it might just work. The show will be brand new to a lot of viewers, but for those of us who remember the original; I hope it does justice to the OG!
