This is why baseball is so cool.

St Paul native, Gus Varland has had a long journey on his way to the big leagues. Back in 2018, he was drafted to the Oakland Athletics. He then spent two years in the minor leagues until 2020 cancelled the season due to the pandemic.

He joined the Dodgers organization in 2021 and ’22 until the Brewers picked him up in December. His prowess as a pitcher certainly turned some heads and Gus has officially joined the Brewers roster as a starting reliever. Here is his reaction when he found out he’s playing Opening Day on Thursday in Chicago.

In a following interview, Gus was asked who he first called with the news and he said he immediately called his parents and asked them, “What are you guys doing on March 30th?”

Gus isn’t the only baseball player in the family. Right now his brother Louie is in the Minnesota Twins organization. Baseball is the best.
