I LOVED THE BARBIE MOVIE – THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED

Written by on July 24, 2023

Some mild spoilers, obviously…

I was pretty excited for the Barbie movie, which was a bit weird because I’m not really a Barbie girl. Sure, I had some Barbies as a kid, but I never really related to them. It was something to do but never something that resonated with me.

I’ve probably only owned a handful on pink things in my life so I didn’t dress up, but seeing people in pink flooding into the theater was also pretty fun.

In fact so many people went, Greta Gerwig made history with biggest box office opening for a female director.

Why was I so excited about the movie then? It seems funny, but also with something to say about society and human relations. Honestly, that’s exactly what it was. I laughed a bit too loud more than once in the theater and came away feeling okay about life so that’s really the goal, right?

The cast was really big and they were all pretty great. I somehow missed that Rhea Perlman would be in it, and was surprised that there were 3 cast members that were in Sex Education, a show I really liked on Netflix. Emma Mackey, Connor Swindells, and Ncuti Gatwa were all so fun to see!

With the extensive history of Barbie, it was fun to watch some of the Easter Eggs of discontinued Barbies and old movie references, but I definitely missed a few:

If you saw it, here’s some things you may have missed:

Margot Robbie shared her favorite, too, which was absolutely a wonderful scene:

My favorite wasn’t a Barbie Easter Egg per so but one beautiful scene I’d read about before seeing the movie. Barbie sits on a bench with an older woman, played by the movie’s costume designer Ann Roth, and tell her she is beautiful.
