LETTER CARRIER’S FOOD DRIVE THIS SATURDAY

Written by on May 7, 2026

The National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place annually on the second Saturday in May – this year, that’s May 9! This drive is critical for getting food program shelves stocked up for the summer months.

Connor Glassen, Community Engagement Coordinator at Great Rivers United Way, and Shelly Fortner, Executive Director for Hunger Task Force of La Crosse, joined the Morning Buzz to talk about how to get support:

GRUW needs your help! Here’s how to get involved:

Place non-perishable food and hygiene item donations near (not in) your mailbox by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9. It is important to have your donation ready and in a visible location on this date and time because it’s when the volunteers we’ve recruited to help our local Letter Carriers will be out picking them up.

Speaking of picking up donations, we’re still looking for volunteer Driving Teams to get out ahead of our local Letter Carriers, who are also delivering our mail this day. Teams of 2 or more will report to an assigned location in La Crosse or Onalaska; follow a route, picking up donations along the way; and transport what they collect back to the collection site they started from. In addition to in-kind donations, this is our highest volunteer need at this time.

The final way to get involved is staffing a collection site. Collection Site crew volunteers stationed at the La Crosse Post Office will help unload donations from volunteer and post office vehicles; weigh them; organize them; and load them on food program trucks.

If you’re able to make a monetary donation, those are also welcome at Hunger Task Force of La Crosse and WAFER.
