CAN YOU LEAVE HAND SANITIZER IN YOUR CAR?

Written by on May 21, 2020

Alcohol is flammable and hand sanitizer has a high percentage of alcohol, that’s why it works. But it’s also hazardous if not stored correctly. Obviously, you don’t want to have it near open flames but you may not have considered other issues. It may have occurred to you already to be careful if you’re grilling out or smoking, but what about your car? The Western Lakes Fire District in Oconomowoc, WI (a Milwaukee suburb) posted a pic to say a hot car isn’t a great place to store your hand sanitizer. The risk is considerably lower than an open flame but not impossible.
While they apparently said the image they shared was taken in Brazil after hand sanitizer contacted open flame, it’s still a good reminder that it’s quite flammable and you should be careful where you put it and what you do near it. Also, I’m not a scientist, but I’m thinking fireworks are a bad idea with a container with high alcohol content around, so I’ll just leave that thought there with you…

Still curious and want to see flaming shots of booze? Cool, the National Fire Protection Association put together a handy video:
