Lightning Strikes Minnesota Home For Second Time In Five Years

Written by on June 28, 2023

They always say that lightning never strikes in the same place twice. But that certainly wasn’t the case for the Neuman family.

On Saturday night, Jeff Neuman, who lives south of Hastings, Minnesota, returned home after a night out when he and his family heard a loud crashing sound, along with a bright flash of light.

According to KARE-TV in Minneapolis:

Their Ring surveillance camera captured the flash of light before freezing and powering off. It later started working again. Still, Neuman is in talks with insurance and estimates tens of thousands of dollars in other replacements and repairs.

“It put a hole in my roof,” he explained. “Garage door opener, irrigation system. My well pump went bad. A couple of TVs. The refrigerator.”

And the craziest part? That this wasn’t the first time lightning had struck their home.

Back in 2006, Jeff explained that lightning hit their roof and made what he described as “5 basketball-sized” holes. The odds of it happening twice is in the range of 1-in-15,000.
