John Gordon, Artist Who Designed Packers Logo, Passes Away At 83

Written by on October 3, 2023

Back in 1961, John Gordon was an art student at St Norbert College and worked as assistant to the equipment manager for the Green Bay Packers when he was offered the chance to design the iconic logo.

His boss, Gerald “Dad” Braisher, came from a meeting with coach Vince Lombardi with a piece of paper with directions on what the logo should look like.

According to CBS News:

“…he said that Lombardi wants a logo … and it’s going to be a ‘G’ in a football shape,” Gordon said in a video produced 10 years ago by St. Norbert College.

Gordon drew up the design 24 hours later and the rest is history. John’s contribution also landed him in the Packers Hall of Fame.

John was survived by his wife, Dianne, his ex-wife, Joan Gordon, and their six children, three grandchildren, a brother and sister and three stepchildren.
