The Madness of March!

FILE – In this March 10, 2020, file photo, Gonzaga’s Killian Tillie (33) cuts down the net after defeating Saint Mary’s in an NCAA college basketball game in the final of the West Coast Conference men’s tournament in Las Vegas. As more than 300 teams prepare to start a season that will look nothing like any before it, the conversation is not so much about who will be cutting nets at the end of March Madness, as whether anyone will cut nets at all. When it comes to sporting events, the College Basketball Tournament may be my favorite all year long. Sure, the football playoffs are a good time. The road to the World Series is always great (Even if watching your team getting bounced from competition year after year is brutal). But, the March tourney always sucks me in all the way through for a couple reasons.

First off, there’s always a scrappy unknown team that makes an impressive run. What’s not to love about watching South Bogwater State from some small town in Florida take down a powerhouse team? It just adds to the fun if they win in a dramatic fashion.

Second, it’s always at the time of year where we’re clawing our way out of winter. It’s hard to beat turning the radio broadcast of the tournament (Which, you’ll find on WKTY 96.7 FM BTW), doing yardwork, getting some spring cleaning done, or just hanging outside with a coffee. It’s magical and just puts you in the right mood.

And finally, it combines two of my favorite things. High level sports and binge watching TV. There will be a ton of coverage over the next few days so I really can’t think of anything better than ordering in and watching basketball until my eyeballs are dried out and strained.

So this weekend, take some time to enjoy the tournament, make some wings, chill out and watch your bracket get completely busted by round two!
