NORTHERN MINNESOTA MARATHON KICKS OFF IN -25F TEMPERATURES

Written by on January 31, 2023

Just based on the headline, my main question is “why?”

The Arrowhead Ultra-marathon kicked things off in International Falls yesterday with the temperature at race time of -25. Roughly 147 participants signed up to either run, bike or ski the 135 mile race. Some even opted to strap on snowshoes.

The race is traditionally run the last Monday in January when the temps are some of the coldest in the world. And the profits from the Arrowhead go towards providing scholarships for children of military members that were either killed or wounded in action.

According to Bring Me The News:

According to Arrowhead Ultra’s website, only 35% of people (52) who started the race (148) finished it. A soon-to-be-released documentary about the race titled “40 Below: The World’s Toughest Race” was filmed 2019 when the Polar Vortex hit Minnesota.
