JESSE: WHAT I THOUGHT OF “OPPENHEIMER”

Written by on July 24, 2023

With Ballzer writing her review of “Barbie”(You can read that here), why not share what I thought of “Oppenheimer”, right?

First off, it’s long. I didn’t think I had the patience to sit through a 3 hour movie, but when I think about all the times I binged an entire 13 episode season of TV in a day, we came to the conclusion I’d be just fine.

The film chronicles J. Robert Oppenheimer from the time he was studying physics at Cambridge, the development of the atomic bomb that was ultimately dropped on Japan, ending World War II and subsequently, a trial where he was questioned about his ties to the Communist party.

It was interesting the light Christopher Nolan showed Oppenheimer in, regarding his personal life. He wasn’t the most admirable when it came to relationships. It wouldn’t be too off base to consider him a serial womanizer.

The sound and the practical effects were very impressive overall. There were times where it was intensely loud and leaned towards ear-shattering but those moments were few.

And I must say, watching movies without subtitles, at least for me, lends to daydreaming. When it comes to a dialogue-heavy historical drama, having the subtitles on maybe would have helped.

But overall, Oppenheimer was solid! It was very much a Christopher Nolan film. Acting was great. Cast was on point. If I had to give it a letter grade, it’d be in the “B+” to “B”.
